| Ben Scott-Brandt |
|
In 1999 Ben founded Bunkbed Nights, an indie folk-rock band with an ever-revolving cast that played around Michigan (and Grand Rapids especially) for seven years. He has also performed with Royal Confusion, Airplanes are Fast, Brachiopod, Night Swarm, Halos For Martyrs, and Ben and Bruno. His current musical project is Ribbons of Song — an intuitive, ambient-folk sound that has recently been fleshed out with a full band. Ribbons of Song has released two recordings, toured the Midwest and parts of Canada, and performed at numerous concert venues in Grand Rapids. Ribbons of Song released its first full-length CD, Comb My Cowlicks Down, on Don't Be So Stubborn Tapes & Zines in January of 2007. This home-recorded album was followed by an ambient vocal drone EP, "Hive Deity," which came out on R.C. Legacy in early 2008. The band is currently mixing its first studio album, "Pocket Dream," slated for 2010 release. Scott-Brandt's stated intention is to "make music that feels touchable and squirmy, focusing with child-binoculars on the cloud of hazy signifiers and feelings associated with nostalgia and memory." Ben has performed live versions of the songs throughout the Midwest. These performances are characterized by intricate arrangements, thematic performance artistry, and smoke from a smoke machine. |
